Elbow
Conditions
Dr Steven Frederiksen is an orthopaedic surgeon who has a particular interest in managing elbow conditions. The elbow joint is a complex combination of three joints allowing flexion and extension of the elbow and also forearm rotation. It has strong bony stability, with ligamentous structures providing additional stability. Muscle-tendon groups cross the joint, providing additional stability and movement. Any fracture at the elbow should be considered a “fracture-dislocation” until proven otherwise.
Elbows may also present with pain, with or without activity, or mechanical symptoms such as locking, clicking or catching. A thorough assessment is appropriate to confirm diagnosis and allow for management.
