Step 1
Consultation
You will need a referral to see Dr Frederiksen for a consultation. This can be obtained from your treating doctor or general practitioner. If you have a referral, please contact Dr Frederiksen’s rooms. Dr Frederiksen may ask for further investigations to be arranged prior to your appointment. This is undertaken to ensure the optimal and most efficient management of your condition.
What to Bring
On the day of your appointment, please bring with you the following items:
- A copy of your referral letter if it has not already been forwarded to Dr Frederiksen’s rooms.
- Copies of nerve conduction studies, x-rays, ultrasound, CT scans or MRI’s (reports) relevant to your condition. Please note that most images are now accessed online. It is important to remember where and when imaging was undertaken.
- Copies of any blood tests or pathology undertaken relevant to your condition.
- A list of current medications and the dosage and frequency of these.
- Your health insurance card or worker’s compensation details, as well as means of payment for the consultation.
- EFTPOS and credit card are accepted. Payment for the initial consultation is required at the time of consultation.
Dr Frederiksen will assess you at the time of consultation. He will review your investigations and discuss them with you. If further investigations are required, Dr Frederiksen will arrange these, as well as further appointments.
Directions
Dr Frederiksen consults at Brisbane Private Hospital and Brisbane Sports and Exercise Medicine Specialists, Hawthorne. Please refer to the “Location and Map” section of this website for details of where to go for the appointment, how to get there and where to park.
Registration
You will be provided with a patient registration form to enable collection of confidential personal and medical information. The privacy statement located on this website will guide you in how your personal information will be handled. The care agreement form should also be viewed prior to the consultation. This form outlines both your responsibilities as the patient and also those of Dr Frederiksen.
To save time prior to your consultation, these forms can be completed before your first appointment.
Family and friends
Please feel free to bring a family member or close friend with you to the consultation. They are most welcome and can ease the stress of the appointment. Family members or close friends can also help by reminding you of any questions that you may have, as well as helping you recall information discussed at the consultation. Sometimes it is appropriate to ask these people to wait in the waiting room during a consultation. This is to ensure appropriate privacy if required at times of discussion or during an examination.
Chaperone
At times during the consultation, Dr Frederiksen may ask a member of his staff to provide assistance in the form of a chaperone. Additionally, if you would like a chaperone during the consultation, please do not hesitate to ask Dr Frederiksen or one of his staff.
Non-Surgery Options
The final decision regarding treatment is a joint decision between Dr Frederiksen and yourself. Non operative forms of treatment are appropriate, particularly early in the management of a condition. These can include simple medications, the provision of splints, referrals for therapy with a physiotherapist or hand therapist, or implementing techniques such as activity modification. Injections, particularly with local anaesthetic and coriticosteroid, are often utilised to confirm diagnosis and also the treat conditions. Other injections are less commonly utilised in this practice.
