Wrist
Conditions

Dr Steven Frederiksen is an orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in the assessment and management of wrist conditions. The wrist is an incredible combination of the two forearm bones (radius and ulna) articulating with the first row of carpal bones (smaller wrist bones) and with then a second row of carpal bones. The biomechanics of the wrist has been heavily researched and it involves an interplay of the bony articulations and ligament structures. The history of presentation, site of any pain, examination and imaging are all important in assessing and managing wrist conditions. Often, targeted injections will be used to confirm or exclude sites of pain and pathology.

Dr Frederiksen is experienced in the management of wrist conditions, with over five hundred wrist arthroscopy procedures and three hundred TFCC (Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex) repairs. The following conditions are some of the wrist conditions that Dr Frederiksen manages, both nonoperatively or operatively;

  • Fractures including those of the distal radius, scaphoid and other carpal bone fractures
  • Ligament rupture and instability
  • Arthritis including wrist and base of thumb degeneration
  • Tenosynovitis including De Quervain’s disease
  • Undiagnosed pain

If you are experiencing any of the above conditions and would like to arrange an appointment with Dr Frederiksen, please contact your GP to request a referral.
